AFGE Hosts National Convention

WASHINGTON, D.C.¡XHundreds of government employees from across the country will serve as delegates and alternates to AFGE¡¦s 36th Triennial Convention in Las Vegas, Nev., Aug. 18 through Aug. 22, 2003. A major thrust of this year¡¦s convention will be to develop strategies and programs to stop efforts by the Bush Administration to sell the government off to well-connected campaign contributors and eliminate federal employee protections that obstruct their efforts to protect our homeland and support our warfighters overseas.

A rally will be held Monday, Aug. 18, at 5 p.m. in front of the Aladdin Hotel (67 Las Vegas Blvd., South) to protest the Bush Administration¡¦s efforts to privatize over half of the federal workforce to for-profit corporations. Nevada could lose as many as 4,000 federal jobs.

The American Federation of Government Employees, AFL-CIO, is the largest union for government employees, representing some 600,000 federal workers in the United States and overseas, as well as employees of the District of Columbia.
