CondolencesApril 28, 2009By Bridgette Rodriguez I learned of NVP Andrea Brooks' passing last night, and it is with both a heavy heart and an uplifted spirit that I send this letter. My heart is heavy in knowing that Andrea will no longer be with us, as we move forward in the labor movement. She will be sorely missed and was a role model and leader for all unionists – and even more so for women and people of color. However, I have been and will always be uplifted for having met and known Andrea as a unionist and prior Fair Practices Coordinator for AFGE Council 117 and Local 1458. She helped to move mountains. That is the work of giants. To quote Pericles, "What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others." Andrea left behind many tapestries woven into the lives of many. May you soar ever higher now, Andrea. |
