The Department of Education's 4,500 employees represent several federal agencies supporting ED's mission to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access. They support such activities like the President's boards and commissions on education for Hispanic Americans, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and Tribal Colleges and Universities.
