AFGE Honors Vietnam-Era Veterans in 25th Anniversary Parade

Wednesday November 14, 2007

(WASHINGTON) – On Saturday, November 10, AFGE paid tribute to the sacrifice of servicemen and women of the Vietnam War era by participating in the Vietnam Veterans of America’s parade commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the dedication of the Vietnam Memorial Wall.

AFGE, along with partner unions sponsored a float themed, “We Serve Veterans… We Are Veterans” displaying the extraordinary commitment of AFGE members in both military service and in the Department Veterans Affairs (VA). The parade, which was attended by thousands of Vietnam era veterans and their families, went from 7th and Independence Avenue through the heart of the National Mall and on to 17th and Constitution Avenue.

“We are committed to the nation’s current and future veterans by providing quality care in the VA and ensuring equity for veterans in the workplace throughout the federal government,” said J. David Cox, AFGE national secretary treasurer and VA nurse for 23 years.
