As the old adage goes, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Pick up a paper from 100 years ago and you'd likely see headlines that are eerily similar to today's: working people are underpaid and overworked, health care costs are out of control, and corporate money is corrupting our political system.
Instead of throwing up their hands in frustration, working people joined together to fight for changes that made a huge difference in all of our lives. Things like standard wages and workdays, health care and retirement benefits, and paid time off like the Labor Day holiday most of us enjoy every year.
Times have changed, but the struggle for equality at work and at home continues. Like generations before us, we must join together to fight for fair wages, better working conditions, and an economy that works for everyone – not just those at the top.
Cynics don't build the future. Activists do. And with your sisters and brothers at your side, nothing can stop us.
Have a wonderful Labor Day.
