Voter suppression. LGBT rights. Racial justice. Considering what’s happening on Main Street, this kind of diversity training couldn’t come at a more opportune time.  

The Women's and Fair Practices Departments are holding their 3rd Annual Diversity Week Training August 12-19 in Washington, D.C., and this year’s theme, “The Time is Now: We Who Believe in Freedom” conveys the urgency of the current civil rights crisis sweeping this country.   

“If we are to bring about change, we have to get active and involved by educating our members, talking to our families, friends and neighbors, and getting involved in our communities,” said National Vice President for Women and Fair Practices Augusta Thomas. 

In addition to our core classes such as Collective Bargaining, Coordinator Boot Camp, and all levels of EEO training, AFGE will continue to offer classes such as Diversity and Workplace Bullying. This year’s training will also include economic, gender and racial justice training to inspire activism in our communities. Diversity Week also includes the ever popular Y.O.U.N.G. AFGE Training Summit and AFGE Pride LGBT training.
