6 Things You Need to Know About the 2018 AFGE Legislative Conference

It’s that time of year. Yes, we’re talking about AFGE’s annual Legislative Conference where hundreds of AFGE members will gather in Washington, D.C. to do important work. Navigating the conference with hundreds of other people could be chaotic at times. But don’t worry. We’ve got you covered. Here are a few ways to make sure your experience will be a pleasant one:

1. Download the App now

Everything you need for the 2018 Legislative & Grassroots Mobilization Conference could be on your mobile phone! With the app, the conference’s agenda, hotel map, issue papers and other important info will be at your fingertips. So, cut down on what you're carrying and download the official 2018 Legislative Conference App to your smart phone or tablet!

To download the LegCon App:

  1. Search “AFGE” in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Select the “AFGE Events” App.
  3. Download the Conference App.

2. Want to Get through the Registration Line Super Quickly?

Here's what you need to do:

  • Arrive early! Arriving before 10 a.m. Sunday will ensure the process is quick. We will also have Saturday registration from 2:00PM-6:00PM.
  • Say "cheese!" Be ready to take a photo for your badge, which all attendees are required to wear for security purposes.
  • Go to the registration area in Columbia Foyer [check your app map]! You'll get your badge and bag right there.
  • Your badge is your conference pass! Wear it everywhere!

This badge is your access pass to the general session, and big meetings and your District breakfasts. Be sure to wear it everywhere so you're able to go where you need to in the conference area.

4. Use the #OurVoice2018 Hashtag on Social Media

Posting or Tweeting about our Legislative Conference? Taking photos of your time on Capitol Hill or when you meet with lawmakers? Add #OurVoice2018 to your post! We'll post some of your best to the official AFGE FacebookTwitter and Instagram accounts.

You’re doing important work. Use #OurVoice2018 on social media to show you're proud to be a public servant, proud to be union, and proud to advocate for your fellow government workers!

5. It Will Be Cold - Pack Accordingly

It’s cold in Washington, D.C. in February. As some of our activities will be held outside, it’s wise to bundle up and stay warm.

6. Bring your fabulous self and prepare to inspire and be inspired!

At AFGE’s annual Legislative Conference, you’ll get to connect and brainstorm with fellow AFGE members from other agencies and take a collective action to make a difference in each other’s life.
