AFGE and allies have launched an online clearing house to share best practices and provide assistance to federal workers in understanding and exercising their rights.
Civil Service Strong provides information about employee rights, legal representation, whistleblowing, and more. It explains the process to file a discrimination complaint through the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the role of the Merit Systems Protection Board in protecting the civil service from political interference and upholding merit principles.
The resource center will soon launch a centralized hub for individuals facing harassment by private individuals, or fearing firing, reassignment, or retaliation.
Federal workers can sign up to stay informed of the latest resources and ways they can support our work.
“The federal civil service is made up of 2.2 million patriotic individuals, a third of whom are veterans, who provide vital services to the American people including ensuring clean air and water, securing our borders and our communities, supporting our military at home and abroad, protecting our skies, combating health care crises, caring for our veterans, providing social security benefits, inspecting our food, upholding our civil liberties, and so much more,” said AFGE President Everett Kelley.
“Federal employees are the backbone of our society, delivering upon the promises made in the U.S. Constitution. On behalf of the 800,000 civil servants we represent, AFGE is proud to be a part of the Civil Service Strong initiative, standing up against attacks on the federal workforce and the essential services they provide to our nation’s citizens,” he added.
Joining AFGE in the effort to protect government workers are the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), American Federation of Teachers (AFT), Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), Democracy Forward, Government Accountability Project, National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE), Project on Government Oversight, and State Democracy Defenders Fund.
Kelley said AFGE will continue to represent our members and advocate for the programs and services that government employees deliver for the American people regardless of who in the White House.
