The AFGE Communications Department has won 10 awards from the International Labor Communications Association (ILCA) for excellence in labor communications.
The annual ILCA awards recognize the important work of labor journalists and unions in amplifying the voices of workers, shining the spotlight on injustice, and celebrating organizing victories. The ILCA contest is the largest competition of its kind. Every year it attracts thousands of entries that tell the story of the labor movement.
AFGE is proud to be recognized for our work uplifting the voices of government employees. The 10 awards represent the second highest number we’ve received over the past several years.
“I cannot say enough about the breadth and depth of talent and dedication we have in the AFGE Communications Department or the support we get from our leadership and colleagues throughout the union,” AFGE Communications Director Andrew Huddleston said. “It is an exciting time to be a part of AFGE, and it is very gratifying to see our communications staff and our union recognized for the incredible work happening across this organization every day.”
One of the awards we won was the Saul Miller Award for our media outreach highlighting understaffing and safety issues at federal prisons across the country. The AFGE Council of Prison Locals congratulates the department for a job well done.
“I am very thankful for AFGE’s Comms Department and the dedication the staff have to working with the council,” said Council President Brandy Moore White. “I as well as my board and members truly appreciate the articles highlighting our understaffing and safety issues. These types of articles are very beneficial to assist us in working with our elected congressional officials to try to effectuate the change we so desperately need in the Bureau of Prisons.”
