After completion of work by the Ad Hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence (AI), AFGE has launched a new webpage with resources and information about AI at afge.org/ai.
AFGE’s AI Resource Hub aims to educate and inform AFGE members about the evolving role of AI in federal workplaces, ensuring that employees are prepared and protected in the face of rapid technological change.
AI technology is increasingly becoming a part of everyday operations within various federal agencies. From automating routine tasks to enhancing decision-making processes, AI holds the potential to significantly transform the nature of government work.
Recognizing both the opportunities and challenges that come with this transformation, AFGE has proactively developed resources to help our members navigate this new terrain.
“We are on the cusp of a technological revolution that will change how we work,” said AFGE President Everett Kelley. “Our mission is to ensure that our members are not only aware of these changes but are also equipped to adapt and thrive. The new AI Resource Hub is a vital tool in this mission.”
Features of the AI Resource Hub
The newly launched AI Resource Hub is designed to keep AFGE members informed about AI developments and their implications. Key features include:
- Report of the Ad Hoc Committee on AI:
The page includes a report from AFGE’s own committee on AI, which offers a wealth of information on what AI is, how it works, and its various applications in the federal sector. The report includes analysis, recommendations, and research into attitudes about AI among AFGE members and leaders.
- Policy Updates:
AFGE is actively involved in discussions and policymaking regarding AI in the federal workforce. The AI Resource Hub provides updates on these efforts, including copies of the latest policies and guidance issued about AI across the government.
- Member Resources:
The site features resources specifically tailored for federal employees and union members, such as sample bargaining language and a request for information template to help you engage with AI in your role, understand your rights, and leverage the collective bargaining process to ensure AI enhances your members’ work lives.
Advocating for Ethical AI Integration
One of the primary concerns surrounding the adoption of AI is its potential impact on jobs. AFGE is committed to advocating for responsible AI integration that prioritizes the welfare of employees. Across the government, we are pushing for policies that ensure transparency, accountability, and fairness in the deployment of AI technologies.
Preparing for the Future
As AI continues to evolve, so too will the resources and support provided by AFGE. The AI webpage is just the beginning of a broader effort to equip members with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed in a changing work environment. AFGE plans to do more in the future to further support its members in understanding and utilizing AI technologies.
By staying informed and proactive, our members can turn potential challenges into opportunities for growth and advancement.
The launch of the AI Resource Hub at afge.org/ai represents AFGE’s forward-thinking approach to the future of work. By providing valuable resources and advocating for ethical AI integration, AFGE is ensuring that our members are not left behind in the technological revolution.
