President Cox joined members in Charlotte, NC to hold a Labor walk and phone bank. Meeting at a local IBEW Union Hall on Saturday morning, members wore their blue & gold AFGE shirts and knocked on doors in the community to turn out voters for Senator Kay Hagan and other AFGE endorsed candidates.
“This election is vitally important to government workers like us,” said Cox. “Who we elect will determine whether we get a fair pay increase, and if our pension will still be there when we retire. It was fantastic to see so many activists come out on a Saturday morning ready to knock on doors and do their part to win this election.”
In northern Virginia, AFGE National Secretary Treasurer Eugene Hudson Jr. and District 14 National Vice President Eric Bunn joined members for a phone bank, labor walk and chili cook-off in Annandale to support Senator Mark Warner. AFGE also held labor walks and phone banks elsewhere in the state, in Herndon and Winchester.
“I’m proud to see so many members gathered ready to talk to their neighbors and friends about the elections this fall,” said Hudson. “The more members that get involved, the better. AFGE needs to be Big Enough to Win this election, and with everyone pitching in, we can win a Congress that fights beside us, not against us.”
AFGE will continue to hold phone banks and labor walks all throughout the country until the election. We encourage all of you to get involved in your areas to help get out the pro-worker vote.
