Washington – In response to the murder of five servicemen in Chattanooga, TN, the American Federation of Government Employees, representing 670,000 federal and D.C. government employees across the U.S. and abroad, issued the following statement:
“AFGE and its members stand in solidarity and mourning with the families of the four Marines, the Navy Sailor and others who were injured in the this vicious attack. This despicable act of cowardice has no place in our country. Members of the Armed Forces knowingly put themselves in danger to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day, among which is the freedom to live safely in our communities.
"We extend our deepest condolences to the family, and sincerest gratitude to the law enforcement officers who swiftly apprehended the perpetrator. We ask all AFGE members to take a moment of silent reflection today to pay your respects to these heroes who were taken from us way too soon."
