HOUSTON - When you see the federal seal you think safety and security.
But what about racism?
Tre Rebstock says it's a serious problem at the US Department of Homeland Security.
Rebstock, the president of the American Federation of Government Employees Union, says African American employees are the victims of racism, harassment, and retaliation at the agency.
He provided FOX 26 news with a list of employees he says were unjustly terminated from the agency and rehired after going to the EEOC.
Rebstock points out a letter left on a Black employee’s desk that read in part 'I'm a queer and the sissy who filed this complaint.
Rebstock also says a noose was found hanging in ICE offices in 2007.
"The employee who did it said, ‘oh it's just a joke’," he says.
Rebstock says it's time for new management at the Houston office.
Officials with ICE issued a statement to FOX 26.
They say any employee who feels they're a victim of discrimination should file a complaint.
The agency also says discrimination will not be tolerated.
