CBP rethinks furloughs, overtime cuts

Inthememo,ThomasS.Winkowski,CBP’sdeputycommissioner,saidthat“inlightofthenewfundingbill,wearere-evaluatingpreviouslyplannedfurloughsandde-authorizationofAdministrativelyUncontrollableOvertime(AUO),andwillpostponeimplementationofbothchangespendingthatre-examination.”


ShawnMoran,anofficialwiththeNationalBorderPatrolCouncil,whichisaffiliatedwiththeAmericanFederationofGovernmentEmployees,saidtheunion”iscautiouslyoptimisticaboutCBP’sdecisiontopostponefurloughsandthedeauthorizationofAUO.Wedohaveawell-foundedfearthatCBPwillnotdotherightthing,though,andultimatelymakeadecisionthatwillleavetheborderinaninsecurestate.”
Whilepleasedwiththisaction,unionLocal1613cautioneditsmemberstotakenothingforgranted.
