Members of AFGE’s DEFCON Steering Group met Sept. 20-22 in Portland, Maine, along with AFGE staff and elected leaders to discuss ways to better serve employees throughout the Department of Defense in the year ahead.
Attendees split into six committees to discuss training, representation, organizing, communications, awards, and legislative issues. The groups developed goals for the coming year that will be compiled into a report to be presented for consideration and approval during November’s National Executive Council meeting at AFGE headquarters.
On the agenda for the year ahead are multiple events, including an organizing boot camp this December in Philadelphia, additional boot camps planned for 2025, an annual training on contract and representational law, and enhanced training during DEFCON’s annual meeting in Washington ahead of the AFGE Legislative & Grassroots Mobilization Conference.
More information on specific events and activities will be shared on the DEFCON Facebook page and at www.afge.org/dod as details are finalized.
