DHS Shutdown Averted

Categories: DHS, Senate, Congress, Budget

We did it! Together, we stopped the Department of Homeland Security from shutting down.

You called your elected officials and wrote thousands of letters - and Congress listened. Because of your work, our AFGE family at TSA, Border Patrol, ICE, FEMA, Coast Guard, and the Federal Protective Service will get their paychecks on time. And for that, we want to thank you.

“After taking us to the brink of a shutdown, lawmakers finally have seen the light of day and approved a funding bill that will ensure operations at the Department of Homeland Security will continue uninterrupted through the rest of the fiscal year. DHS employees safeguard our borders, skies, waterways, public buildings, and communities. It’s unfortunate that the 230,000 federal employees who work at this vital department had to face the prospect of not going to work or getting paid due to a manufactured crisis that was completely avoidable.”

J. David Cox, Sr.
AFGE National President

Union solidarity won the day for these workers, and we could not be more proud. Text "AFGE" to 97779 from your personal phone to stay up to date on other key campaigns (never your government cell phone). Thank you again for all that you do.
