AFGE District 14’s “Spring Forward” Metro organizing drive was a huge success with a total of 171 members on AFGE E-Dues, advancing our union’s fight against attacks on public service.
The two-week organizing campaign ended with 88 new AFGE members and 83 current members converted to E-Dues.
After President Trump illegally cut off automatic payroll dues deductions for union membership in an attempt to hurt our union financially, AFGE sued the administration and has been converting current members to an AFGE-owned, AFGE-operated dues collecting system known as AFGE E-Dues. Under this new system, members can pay their union dues directly to AFGE through various methods like credit card, debit card, or bank draft.
AFGE E-Dues is important for our union’s ability to represent members and fight the Trump administration’s attacks on government workers and their agency missions.
“At least 171 more AFGE members now on E-Dues, thanks to our efforts,” said District 14 National Vice President Ottis Johnson. “Even more than that, we got to go out and reassure and shore up support among our front-line local leaders and speak to large numbers of federal employees during this harrowing time. We got to put out some optimism and hope for the future even while AFGE is in crisis.”
District 14 thanks all the guest speakers, including AFGE Legislative Representative Fiona Kohrman, General Counsel Rushab Sanghvi, Assistant General Counsel Caroline Trabucco, and Assistant General Counsel J. Ward Morrow. AFGE’s Women and Fair Practices Department also arranged for speakers at two events.
