AFGE Member Service Representative Agnes Cunningham was walking around the AFGE headquarters building with a blue and gold button on her denim vest. It reads “Ask me about AFGE Member Benefits,” so we asked her about it.
“I had the button made before we went to the convention, so members would ask me about our benefits,” she explained. “I did the button launch at the convention because I knew a lot of people were going to be there.”
Agnes was talking about AFGE’s popular member-only program that provides tons of discounts on products and services like computers, car rentals, hotels, tours, moving and storage pods, life insurance, credit cards, etc. Many members have reported that the savings they receive from these programs are more than the union dues they pay, so AFGE membership does pay off, literally.
But we have several new members and local officers who may not be familiar with AFGE Member Benefits, so when members asked her at convention, she explained to them what kind of discounts they could get and where they could go for details (www.afge.org/benefits).
Other Membership and Organization staff members also wore the button at convention. When members stopped by the M&O table, they were asked if they used AFGE member benefits, and if they responded that they did, they received a button that states “I use my AFGE benefits,” which is the second button Agnes created for the convention.
“For those that didn't use the benefits, I challenged them to take a few buttons but wear the ‘Ask me about AFGE Member Benefits’ button when they return to their local. The purpose is to get the members and soon-to-be-members engaged in the conversation about all the amazing benefits that AFGE has to offer,” she added. “We have in the past had members sign up because of our benefits, and I would like that to continue. I offered to give benefit presentations in person and virtual if the local needed it.”
Asked which benefit she likes the most, she immediately pointed to the All Resort Store, which she has used and would recommend.
“You can book 7-night resort vacations starting at only $429 with access to more than 2,400+ resort condo rental properties around the world,” she told us excitedly. “This is not per unit, not per person, and you can travel to destinations including Florida, Caribbean, Europe, Canada and others!”
