Activists, labor union representatives and community leaders, including Florida Rep. Bill Heller, D-St. Petersburg, and Tampa Councilwoman Gwen Miller, are slated to attend a Wednesday morning gathering in support of Transportation Security Officers.
The officials are expected to sign a statement of solidarity supporting the Transportation Security Administration’s collective bargaining rights and the efforts of the American Federation of Government Employees, the union for TSA workers.
The event, which will take place at Tampa International Airport’s Conference Room B at 10 a.m., is held in conjunction with the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations’ National TSO Solidarity Week, which includes events in about 30 U.S. cities, a release said.
The Airport Solidarity Committee of the West Central Florida Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO coordinated the local event, the release said.
Headquartered in Washington, AFGE is a federal employee union representing 600,000 workers in the federal government and the government of the District of Columbia.
