The payments will be passed out by the city, the county and the Leavenworth Port Authority, Leavenworth County Administrator Heather Morgan said Friday.
Morgan said the patient account center represents one of the biggest job bonanzas for the Leavenworth area in recent years.
“This is really a big opportunity for the county and the city of Leavenworth,” she said. “Four hundred new jobs in our community will have a tremendous impact.”
The patient account center will handle billing, insurance verification, accounts receivable and cash management for Veterans Affairs patient accounts in the central region.
Members of the Kansas congressional delegation announced the selection Friday. In the release, Rep. Jerry Moran, a member of the Veterans Affairs Committee, said he was glad that “the VA made the right decision.”
“Not only does the decision prove to be a victory for improved veterans’ health care management, it is also a welcome boost for the economy of northeast Kansas,” the Republican said.
Renovation work on the building housing the center is expected to start next summer and be completed by mid-2011.
