Sofar,noonehasbeenreportedassickfromthetaintedwater,butthousandsofveteransfromsixcountiesrelyontheservicesprovidedbythefacility.
Accordingtoamemo,onlyonesampleofLegionellabacteriawasfoundatabuildingonthecampus.
SourcesindicatethatDirectorJohnBennarosentane-mailtoemployeessayingthewaterhadbeenshutofftoBuilding2onthecampus.
Theemailsaid,“ApositivetestofLegionellabacteriawasidentifiedfromonewatersampletakeninbuildingNo.2.”

“Ifeelthisisadisappointmenttotheveteransthatwe’regoingtolosethis,butmoreimportantly,itappearsthattheButlerVAisontopofthesituation.TheyarehandlingthesituationtherightwayandIfeelveryconfidentthatthiswillhaveahappyendingforeveryoneconcerned,”JohnPrichardoftheAmericanLegionsaid.
Thememogoesontosaythatportablewaterandalternativehandsanitationmethodswillbesuppliedtostaffandveteranswhoutilizethebuilding.Thememosaidthisisallaresultofpreventativetestingandmonitoringofthecampuswatersystem.
ThisnewscomesaftertheDepartmentofVeteransAffairsconfirmedfivecasesofLegionnaire’sdiseaseoriginatedattheVAPittsburghfacilityandonepersondied.
Therehavebeen24casesreportedatthefacilitysinceJanuaryof2011.
“IthinktheButlerVAhaslearnedthelessonsfromotherincidents,”Prichardsaid.

TestsatallotherbuildingsattheButlerVAcampuswerenegativeandthereisnowordwhenthewaterservicewillberestoredtotheaffectedbuilding.
