Screening at Stewart living up to demand, says new regional TSA director

STEWARTAIRPORT–TheTransportationSecurityAdministrationhasdeployedthelatesttechnologyforscreeningbaggageatStewartAirport,thenewregionalTSADirectorsays.

BrianJohansson,whoisbasedinAlbanyandisalsoinchargeofTSAoperationsatAlbany,PlattsburghandSaranacLakeairports,toldMidHudsonNews.comthatStewartatNewburghisdoingwellintermsofbaggageandpassengerscreening.

“Althoughtheairportisgrowingrapidly,TSAheadquartersisdoingagoodjobofkeepingupwithgivingusadditionalallocationsforhiringsecurityofficersandweareatourauthorizednumberrightnowandexpecttobequitehealthythroughthesummertravelperiodwhichtendstobequiteabitbusieratStewartthanthewintertimedoes,”hesaid.

U.S.SenatorCharlesSchumer,whohasbeenpushingforenoughsecurityofficerstohandlethetrafficatStewart,saidTSAisdoingbetter.

“Westillcouldusemore;it’sbetterbutnotbest.Wewanttomakeitbest,”hesaid.

JohanssonsaidTSAheadquartersisveryresponsivetotheneedsatStewartandrespondstothoseneedsinamostexpeditiousmanner.
