Unions see TSA screeners as prime candidates for organizing
November 06, 2008
Federal employee unions expect a strong ally in the White House next year, and TSA screeners are at the top of the organizing agenda. "It is unacceptable for [transportation security officers] to work under unfair rules and without workplace protections," Barack Obama said during the election, adding that collective bargaining rights "will be a priority for my administration" as a means of cutting down on high turnover rates at the agency. Both the American Federation of Government Employees and the National Treasury Employees Union have already begun setting up infrastructure for organizing TSA workers.
