Voters Approve Paid Sick Leave

Voters in Massachusetts, Trenton (NJ), Montclair (NJ), and Oakland (CA) voted to require companies with more than 10 employees to provide paid sick days to workers. Massachusetts this week followed in the footsteps of Connecticut and California when its residents voted to guarantee paid sick leave for workers.

Deaths on the Job in Federal Workforce Increased

October 31, 2014

Fatal work injuries among government employees went up 5% from 453 in 2012 to 476 last year. But the job fatality rate in the federal workforce shot up 19% to 124 during the same period, reports the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Jobs related to national security accounted for most of the fatalities – 75 deaths while the Postal Service accounted for 19.

AFGE Delivers Half Million Signatures to Save Social Security Offices

AFGE, Social Security Works and the Alliance for Retired Americans on Thursday submitted half a million signatures of people who demand that Social Security offices remain open in local communities across the country. In total, four rallies took place across the country in Columbus, Ohio, New York, Oakland, Calif. and Washington, D.C.
