We Need a Speed Bump, Not Fast Track

Twenty years ago, NAFTA (North America Free Trade Agreement) was sold to Americans as a job-creating, economy-stimulating trade deal. But 20 years later, we know we have been duped. NAFTA cost the United States more than 1 million manufacturing jobs because of imports from Canada and Mexico or the relocation of factories to those countries. And now the administration and some in Congress are seeking authority to fast track international trade deals like the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) – which is being negotiated and modeled after NAFTA but involves 11 Asian and Latin American countries.

Kentucky Unionists 1 – Chamber of Commerce 0

Union members in Kentucky have been fighting a war against right-to-work-for-less legislation. So far they have successfully stopped many counties from adopting the anti-worker measure. The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, the Bluegrass Institute, ALEC, and other anti-worker organizations had launched their crusade to pass the right-to-work-for-less measure in 30 counties by the end of January.

Obama Grants 6 Weeks of Paid Parental Leave to Feds

If you stand for “family values,” then you need to walk the talk. President Barack Obama did just that this week when he issued an executive order directing agencies to grant six weeks of advanced paid leave to federal employees to care for a new born or an adopted child, take care of an ill family member, or attend to similar matters.
