The House Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity on Thursday approved with a minor revision a bill that would allow the Department of Veterans Affairs to fire all employees, including non-management, at will.

Thanks to years of hard work by AFGE activists, the Senate and the House this week passed a bill that would eliminate a 10% early withdrawal penalty for federal law enforcement officers when they retire after age 50. The bill, which applies to those retiring after Dec. 31, 2015, will now go to President Obama for his signature.

Sixty senators – the bare minimum needed – voted to give the administration authority to negotiate the horrendous Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement with 11 other nations without congressional amendments. Thirty eight senators voted against it. The so-called Fast Track bill passed the House last week.
