Terry first served in the Air Force while pursuing his educational goals, then joined the Air Force Reserves and retired after 22 years of military service. He was an original charter member and instrumental in the formulation of the prestigious “Silver Wings” Color Guard. He worked for the Department of Defense (DOD) for 13 years as a professional in aircraft maintenance. While an employee at DOD, Terry performed duties as an Equal Employment Opportunity Counselor. He also served as AFGE Shop Steward for Aircraft Maintenance at Fort Worth Naval Air Station and Joint Reserve Base.
Terry has worked outside the federal government in the private sector for Unisys Technical Services in the capacity of Management Analyst. There he developed technical procedures for computer applications for the City of Chicago from the Unisys Multiple Services Center. Included in his duties were the administration of Novell, and GroupWise servers and Business Objects applications. As a technical services representative for Advanced Telecommunications Corporation, Terry worked in the development of PC Banking Software and was active as a Union organizer.
He currently maintains a Texas Real Estate Salesperson’s License and is an advocate and participant in Habitat for Humanity. As a member of the Austin Chapter of the NAACP, he is actively involved in efforts to find affordable housing for underprivileged residents of the Austin community. He has also worked in the federal sector for over 35 years, always with a focus on improving the relationship between management and the labor force, to better accomplish the mission(s) of the organizations for which he worked.
Terry works for the Department of Veterans Affairs at present, and is the Union President, after serving as the Local Union Treasurer. He also serves on the AFGE Human Rights Committee as Women and Fair Practices Coordinator for AFGE District 10.
Terry is the Secretary of Rishon Lodge #1 of Austin Texas and is Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rose of Sharon chapter. Terry serves as Executive Vice President of the Austin Chapter of Blacks in Government (BIG) and coordinator of the chapter’s Youth Oratorical competition and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program. He believes in a philosophy of targeting talented children early in their scholastic lives and aiding in preparing them to reach their potential as future leaders in both the private and public sectors of society.
