(WASHINGTON) – The American Federation of Government Employees, the nation’s largest federal employee union, which represents thousands of employees in the Department of Justice, today congratulated President-elect Barack Obama’s nominee for Attorney General Eric Holder. Over the past eight years, AFGE members in the agency vigorously fought to maintain the agency’s mission, but were increasingly discouraged by its politicization.
“We applaud President-elect Barack Obama for nominating Eric Holder to the head of the Department of Justice,” said John Gage AFGE national president. “This choice signifies that President-elect Obama is serious about restoring credibility and the rule of law to the United States.”
“The Department of Justice’s unique position in our government requires the assurance of a fair and impartial administration. Our democracy is completely reliant upon its ability to maintain the public’s trust. Throughout his career Eric Holder has demonstrated himself to be a steward of the American people’s trust. We are eager to work with him and congratulate him on his nomination,” Gage said.
