WASHINGTON – The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona for election this November to the U.S. Senate.
“As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for the past six years, Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema has fought for federal employees and all working people over and over again,” American Federation of Government Employees District 12 National Vice President George McCubbin III said.
“Kyrsten has voted against federal budgets that would slash funding for social services, environmental protection, foreign diplomacy, and other expenses to help pay for $6.2 trillion in tax breaks. She supports providing all federal employees with competitive wages, including a pay raise next year, and has opposed attempts to cut employees’ earned retirement benefits.
“Kyrsten understand the critical role that federal employees have in delivering all the programs and services that taxpayers in Arizona and across the country expect and deserve, and she will fight to preserve employees’ right to join a union and collectively bargain for better working conditions and better public services.”
More than 32,000 federal civilian employees live in Arizona – caring for veterans, supporting the military, guarding our borders, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time. About 106,000 active and retired federal employees live in Arizona.
“I’m so grateful to have the support of the American Federation of Government Employees in our campaign for the U.S. Senate,” Sinema said. “For years, we have stood together to ensure fair pay and good benefits for the over 30,000 federal employees in Arizona. Together, we’ll continue to stand up for Arizona workers. I’m proud to have AFGE alongside us in this fight.”
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 12 represents nearly 80,000 employees in Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Nevada.
