WASHINGTON – The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Doug Chin for the U.S. House of Representatives for Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District.
“Doug Chin is a fighter who believes in speaking out for those who don’t have a voice and standing up for those who keep getting knocked down,” said American Federation of Government Employees District 12 National Vice President George McCubbin III.
“As Hawaii’s former attorney general and current lieutenant governor, Doug Chin has defended our country’s civil rights laws, supported women’s reproductive rights, and spoken out against Trump administration policies that aim to roll back all the progress we’ve made in this country,” McCubbin said.
“Doug Chin stands with AFGE and the federal workers who keep us safe, care for our veterans, protect our environment, and serve working families on Oahu and across the country.”
More than 33,000 federal employees live in Hawaii – caring for veterans, supporting the military, keeping dangerous criminals safely behind bars, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time. There are more than 43,500 active and retired federal employees in the 1st Congressional District.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 12 has more than 40,000 dues-paying members in Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Nevada.
“As Hawaii’s attorney general, I stood up for the rights of federal employees in the U.S. Supreme Court,” Chin said. “I look forward to being a strong champion in Congress for our everyday heroes – the skilled federal workers in Hawaii and across the country – who proudly and ably serve the American people.”
