WASHINGTON – Today, American Federation of Government Employees National President Everett Kelley released the following statement:
“We are aware of numerous public reports of credible threats to government buildings and plans for armed demonstrations in our nation’s capital and major cities around the country. Make no mistake, these events are clearly intended to disrupt our democracy and intimidate government officials in the days leading up to inauguration.
“AFGE unequivocally condemns calls for violence and armed demonstrations by the same groups who last week led a shameful and deadly attack on our democracy. Federal and D.C. government agencies must respond quickly and effectively to these threats, and no effort should be spared in ensuring the safety of our federal workforce.
“We are calling on all agencies to immediately maximize telework opportunities for any government employee who is eligible and to provide enhanced physical security for any worker whose job requires them to be at the worksite in-person.
“As we saw last week, inaction and failure to properly prepare can have deadly consequences.”
