Largest Federal Employee Union Applauds House Passage of Procedural Vehicle to Raise the Debt Ceiling
AFGE calls on the Senate to swiftly pass similar legislation
WASHINGTON – Today, the American Federation of Government Employees, AFL-CIO (AFGE) National President Everett Kelley released the following statement regarding passage of legislation to raise debt ceiling:
“AFGE applauds the House for passing legislation to raise the debt ceiling, taking an essential first step in ensuring the American people they can continue to count on their government to deliver essential programs and services without interruption. The Senate must now act swiftly to pass similar legislation for President Biden’s signature.
“The risks of defaulting on our debts are too great, and the American people will not tolerate interruptions to Social Security, veterans’ benefits, and other critical services resulting from partisan politics.”
