Largest Federal Union Denounces Executive Order Cutting Federal Workforce
AFGE strongly opposes sweeping executive order that will slash vital federal services and empower unelected billionaire's "DOGE" agency
WASHINGTON – The American Federation of Government Employees, the nation's largest union representing federal workers, unequivocally denounces President Trump's recent executive order empowering Elon Musk's "Department of Government Efficiency" and drastically cutting the federal workforce.
"Firing huge numbers of federal employees won't decrease the need for government services," said AFGE National President Everett Kelley. "It will just make those services harder or impossible to access for everyday Americans, veterans, and seniors who depend on them."
The executive order, issued Tuesday, February 11th, is part of a long line of attacks on the federal workforce by Musk and Trump, including the violation of union contracts, specious resignation offers, and the dismantling of entire federal programs. These attempts at making the federal workforce more "efficient" will only harm the American people.
"Americans just want government to work when they need it. These reckless, unjustified cuts will accomplish only two things: huge tax cuts for Musk and Trump's billionaire buddies and a broken government for the rest of us." said AFGE National President Everett Kelley.
