(WASHINGTON)—The American Federation of Government Employees today applauded both the Senate committees on Commerce, Science and Transportation, and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs for quickly moving on the nomination for TSA administrator, and urged the full Senate to quickly vote on John Pistole’s nomination.
“AFGE appreciates the speed with which the two Senate committees acted in not only having the nomination hearings, but also voting to approve his nomination,” AFGE National President John Gage said. “We urge Mr. Pistole’s nomination to be brought for a vote to the full Senate without delay.
“We are very encouraged by the fact that members of both the Commerce and Homeland Security committees unanimously voted in favor of Mr. Pistole,” Gage said. “AFGE fully expects Pistole to be confirmed with no delay in the Senate. There are many employee-related issues that will require his attention. AFGE looks forward to working with him to improve this agency to be one that its employees and the American public can be proud of.”
AFGE is the only union to represent the TSA workforce since the agency was created in 2001. The union currently has more than 12,000 dues-paying TSA members in 38 union Locals nationwide.
