Are you ready for our union’s Legislative Conference?
The 2022 AFGE Legislative Conference will take place March 27-30 at the Hyatt Regency in Washington, D.C. Like previous years, it’s chock-full of activities that will help prepare AFGE members for the legislative year ahead.
To get you started, here are 5 things you need to know about this year’s conference.
1. Our theme this year is ‘All Together Now’
From the previous administration’s anti-worker executive orders aimed at gutting workers’ rights to agencies’ illegal management edicts in place of negotiated contracts, federal workers and their unions have been through the most vicious attacks we’ve ever seen. The only way we can beat back future attacks is to come together in solidarity and double down on our efforts to educate members on our rights, mobilize, and stand united for our cause.
2. We have some cool workshops and training!
This year’s conference will offer several training workshops such as legislative advocacy, grassroots mobilization, and equal employment opportunity. AFGE Communications Department will also offer a workshop on how to take your content to the next level with mobile photography!
In addition to these workshops, you will also be able to attend a variety of sessions including your district and council meetings, and a Civil Rights Luncheon hosted by the Women’s and Fair Practices Departments.
3. Meetings with members of Congress may be different this year
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we cannot guarantee your member of Congress and their staff will be able to schedule an in-person meeting on Capitol Hill. We recommend you visit your member of Congress’ website to request a meeting and that you make your requests ASAP. Some members of Congress and their staff may be available to meet with you outside or at the Hyatt Regency. Be flexible with your members of Congress and their staff about where they would like to meet you. For questions or more information, please contact your Legislative and Political Organizer.
4. We’re holding two rallies
We will be holding a rally on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, between 12-1pm, during the lunch hour. Please do not schedule visits with your members of Congress for that time. There will also be a rally on Wednesday, March 30 between 12-1pm with our fellow union members at the VA. Details for both rallies will be provided at the conference.
5. We’re committed to keeping everyone safe
We are excited to get to see each other in person this year, but we also want to make sure we’re doing it in a safe manner. That’s why we have in place safety protocols to protect attendees from COVID-19. In addition to providing proof of vaccination for COVID-19, you’re also required to wear a mask while you are in AFGE meeting rooms, the AFGE exhibit area, and the AFGE registration area. For details on our safety protocols and medical and religious exemptions, please refer to the Legislative Conference App.
See you in Washington, D.C.!
