AFGE Veterans Affairs Local 1862 President Andrew Scherzinger has been recognized as a hometown hero in Central Pennsylvania. Scherzinger is a decorated veteran, having served in the United States Armed Forces between 2000 and 2004.
Scherzinger served as a military police officer and while working as a convoy commander in Baghdad, his Humvee was hit by a roadside bomb. He suffered multiple injuries and was medically retired from the military, earning a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
