AFGE National President J. David Cox, Sr., released the following statement regarding the loss of longtime AFGE activist Linda Mason:
"We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend and colleague Linda Mason on Saturday, Feb. 28. Linda’s life was animated by two great passions, labor and religion, and she pursued both with extraordinary intelligence and strength. Quite simply, her life was devoted to service--healing the sick, comforting the afflicted, and empowering the weak. She is the model to which all of us can only aspire.
"As an exceptional Legislative Representative for AFGE District 2 for decades, Linda knew everybody in Congress, both members and staff, everybody in the state federations, and everybody in AFGE. She worked 24 hours a day, sending us emails at all hours. She always focused on what advanced AFGE’s members. We won a lot of votes which we shouldn’t have in recent years, and she was one of the reasons why.
"She was a private, serious person, pure of heart—a little person in height but big in stature. She served AFGE up until the end, working hard during the recent legislative conference, never showing any sign that the disease had advanced to a critical point. This is a great loss for AFGE. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her mother, AFGE Emeritus Secretary-Treasurer Rita Mason, and her entire family. We will miss her greatly.”
