AFGE's First National Training Conference for Leaders and Activists

AFGE Brothers and Sisters, we are pleased to announce AFGE’s first National LEAD Training Conference for Leaders and Activists! It is the very first national training of its kind, and this year, the training will be held in Chicago at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel from July 16th through July 21, 2017. The training is 4-days long and travel days are Sunday July 16-Friday July 21st. This is a national conference and all AFGE members are invited!
What is the AFGE National LEAD Training?
The National AFGE LEAD Training is part of the new standardized, tiered curriculum for training in AFGE. LEAD classes are built on existing trainings that many members have already completed at regional or district trainings. The standardized classes include New Leaders, Representation and Collective Bargaining and will now include advanced training in, Representation, Leadership, Bargaining, Organizing, Legislative Action, Political Mobilization and Member Engagement.
Training Online and in Person
Yes, it’s true! AFGE members can now complete introductory training online using our new LMS (learning management system) called AFGE Learn. Soon, AFGE Learn will launch, a personalized one-stop online shop for all online trainings, resources, manuals and training schedules.
The LEAD training combines technology with traditional classroom training so that AFGE can reach more members and equip them to for leadership in the 21st century.
Prerequisites
The LEAD model is organized around four levels of learning. Because the Level 2 classes build on knowledge acquired in Level 1 classes, all participants must complete the Level 1 class prior to enrolling in a Level 2 class. If you have completed Level 1 New Leaders, Representation, Online Stewards, or Collective Bargaining: Legal Frameworks or Basic Workers Compensation, then you are eligible to enroll in Level 2 classes below. Both Level 1 and Level 2 classes will be offered during the conference.
Information on the Training
All conference attendees will attend training workshops for AFGE Learn, the brand new LMS (Learning Management System) that participants can use to access training resources online. Technology workshops in digital communications, social media, virtual training software, as well as variety of useful productivity tools for tablets and smartphones will also be offered.

Register early as class sizes for Level 2 will be limited to 25 participants.
Attendees should bring their laptops, tablets and smart phones to participate in the technology workshops.

AFGE Members who register before June 10, 2017 can take advantage of the early registration fee of $285. Members who register after June 10, 2017 will pay the regular rate of $320 for the four days.
