AFGE Local 63 in California recently met with Daniel Hazard, field director for Rep. Susan Davis, to discuss pressing issues that hurt Defense Commissary Agency employees and military families. The local reported that Director Hazard was receptive to the local’s concern about the merger of the DeCA and AAFES and the increase in employee contribution from 0.8% to 6.35% to the retirement system. The local explained that merger would lead to increased prices for military personnel, a loss of jobs for military spouses and dependents, a pay cut for employees with reduced pension.
“We all agreed that Director Hazard had a positive reaction to our issues,” said Local 63 President Ashton Smith. “He said he would address these issues with the D.C. office and that these issues would be presented to Congresswoman Susan Davis.”
