In honor of Women’s History Month, District 14 hosted the first annual District 14 Women’s Conference to empower and inspire union women to reach their fullest potential.
Developed by District 14 National Women’s Advisor Coordinator Tyra McClelland, the conference was held March 1-3 at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, Md., and embodied the theme Mind, Body, and Spirit. Forty-four women representing three AFGE districts and 20 locals attended the conference.
“I wanted to give women something different that would put them in space where it was just about them,” McClelland said.
During the day, the women participated in seminars and workshops that included self-defense training, chair yoga and meditation, mindful self-care, financial health, and vision board training. The evenings were dedicated to networking and bonding activities where women participated in activities that allowed them to get to know one another.
On Sunday morning, the ladies gathered for a Women’s Breakfast, hosted by AFGE’s Women’s and Fair Practices’ Departments, where they honored each other.
