AFGE District 3 led by National Vice President Keith Hill this week held the district’s first-ever strategic organizing meeting to map out organizing plans and help locals grow. At the meeting, which took place in Wilkes Barre, PA, on Aug. 11-12, AFGE Locals 1647, 2809, 940, 2004, 1966 and 1709 shared their successes, their frustrations, and broke into groups to figure strategies and goals.
“We sincerely thank those officers and members for their attention, their willingness to share what is working and the great ideas that they came up with to bring back to their locals,” NVP Hill said. “As our National President quotes almost daily, 'ORGANIZE! ORGANIZE! ORGANIZE!'”
NVP Hill said the AFGE National Office and the district are committed to providing assistance to the locals so that they can achieve their organizing goals.
Besides NVP Hill, AFGE Chief of Staff Brian DeWyngaert, AFGE Membership and Organization Director Bill Lyons, National Organizer Karina Quintana, and Labor Relations Specialist Mark Gibson (DEFCON) attended the meeting.
For those who couldn’t attend, the district will share the handouts of this event on its website at www.afgedistrict3.org. Coming soon will be a Member Resources link (Organizing) to the right hand side, which will be accessible to logged in members only. The district hopes that this information is helpful to the organizing committees within the locals that were invited and could not make it, and for those Western locals that were not included at this time.
