We are happy to announce that Joshua McCue from Fort Walker is AFGE’s Firefighter of the Year!
Joining the Department of Defense in 2011, Josh arrived at Fort Walker in 2020. After serving as a member of the union, he was appointed chief steward and put in charge of all actions regarding Ft. Walker fire department.
Josh helped the union negotiate various tasks with the fire department chain of command, helping not only bring awareness to issues that need to be changed but working with the union president William Bowser to make necessary changes to improve morale and a much-needed change in working conditions for the better.
In 2022 Josh rose to the rank of GS-8 captain and continues to inspire members within the union and mentor his peers within the fire department to build a more stable and long-lasting relationship with all employees.
“More importantly, we would like to thank his wife, Ashley, his daughter, Addison, and his son Charlie for giving us the pleasure and time to have such an asset available to our brotherhood,” said Local 2902 President William Bowser.
“It is an extreme honor to be nominated, much less selected for this award,” Josh said. “I’ve been lucky enough throughout my career to work with great firefighters and officers and I’ve tried to just emulate them and in turn try to be the example for the next firefighters.”
