In September, AFGE not only added a record number of members but maintained the rapid growth we’ve worked so hard for all year.
Last month saw a net increase of 1,347, the best September in years. We’re growing because workers understand they have more power when they join together.
The historic pay increase at TSA in July, which was secured by member action, continued to drive TSA officers to join. Member mobilization has delivered great new collective bargaining agreements for the Department of Veterans Affairs and Social Security Administration.
“As we faced a shutdown, it was clear that nobody is speaking up for federal employees except for federal employees, and joining together was the key to surviving uncertain funding environments,” said AFGE Membership and Mobilization Director Dave Cann said.
Cann added that AFGE locals have worked hard to develop recruiting and organizing systems to generate growth month after month while AFGE organizers are holding more recruiting events.
“It is a success of message, operationalization and hard work throughout the federation,” he added. “Every part of AFGE owns a piece of our growth success story.”
