I was fired as a probationary employee from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
I worked in the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, specifically the Policy and Legislative Initiatives Division.
My office was doing critical work ensuring that people's housing rights are protected. My main work was working to create new products to educate people on their housing rights, reviewing housing plans submitted by cities and towns to ensure they were complying with fair housing laws, and reviewing legislation for housing and civil rights concerns.
I was just about to begin a rotation investigating housing discrimination, which is filled with my ex-coworkers who work tirelessly to make sure that people's housing rights are not violated. By eliminating me and the other people in my department, this administration is actively stripping back the protections that people rely on to keep a roof over their heads.
For an administration so concerned with the housing crisis, they are specifically targeting the federal workers that have the expertise to forward fair and affordable housing.
