President of Largest Federal Sector Union Responds To Resignation of Homeland Security Secretary
WASHINGTON, D.C.—John Gage, national president of the American Federation of Government Employees, issued the following statement in reaction to the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge: "AFGE has been proud to work closely with Secretary Ridge on a number of issues related to the security of the nation, including border protection, customs inspections and immigration enforcement, as well as on the important new personnel system being developed for the Homeland Security Department's 180,000 employees. AFGE wishes Secretary Ridge the best in his future endeavors.
"The highly dedicated members of the federal workforce, which AFGE is proud to represent, continue to play an integral role in protecting the security of this country.
AFGE looks forward to working with Mr. Ridge's successor to ensure that federal workers are treated fairly and equitably and are given the tools and training necessary to serve as our nation's first responders."
