AFGE Launches 'Good Government' Ad Campaign, Welcomes President Obama to Office
(WASHINGTON) – The American Federation of Government Employees today announced the launch of its Good Government ad campaign welcoming the millions of visitors expected for the Presidential Inauguration and congratulating President Barack Obama on his historic victory.
The Good Government ads, which will be featured system-wide on Washington, D.C. metro buses and inside metro railcars, welcome visitors to a new beginning in our nation’s capital and in American government. The ads will run January 12 through Inauguration week.
“Our members have been electrified by the president’s message of hopeful optimism and service in the same way he electrified millions around the world,” said John Gage, AFGE national president. “There is a real sense of enthusiasm and we are ready to get to work.”
Over the past eight years, AFGE members in all federal agencies became increasingly frustrated with the lack of commitment by the Bush administration to fully fund or staff federal agencies, leaving them ill-equipped to meet growing demands.
“We are extremely excited to work with President Obama to restore the credibility of public service and deliver the services the American people want and deserve,” said Gage.
President Obama has been vocal in his commitment to fully fund and staff the Social Security Administration, Bureau of Prisons, and the Department of Veterans Affairs; allow for collective bargaining rights at TSA; and honor the inherently government work of federal employees.
“Equally, and perhaps more importantly, our members recognize that in order for the change that America needs to take effect, it will have to happen from the ground up. It will be from our members in the federal and D.C. government, and from the millions of Americans who believe in the promise of change,” added Gage.
