FLEMINGTON, N.J. –– The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Edwin Osorio for election to the U.S. House representing New York’s 7th Congressional District in the 2026 elections. The statewide primary is June 23, and the general election is Nov. 3.
Overcoming a childhood genetic eye condition called Stargardt disease that impairs vision, Osorio spent 26 years serving the American public as a federal employee at the Social Security Administration before retiring in July 2025. He has served as president of AFGE Local 3369, which represents more than 1,000 SSA employes in the New York City area, since December 2017 and he has served for the past five years as a vice president of AFGE Council 220, which represents SSA employees nationwide who work in field offices, teleservice centers, and workload support units.
In his union leadership roles, Osorio has spent years advocating for federal workers by attending press conferences and speaking on public panels with members of Congress.
“Edwin Osorio has been fighting his whole life, and he will continue to be a fighter for federal workers in Congress,” AFGE District 2 National Vice President David Gonzalez said.
About 5,000 federal employees live in New York’s 7th Congressional District – caring for veterans, supporting the military, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing more than 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. AFGE represents about 51,000 federal employees in District 2, which includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
