TSA Union to Show Support for Pittsburgh Transportation Security Officers with Thursday Rally
(PITTSBURGH)—The American Federation of Government Employees, the union for Transportation Security Officers (TSO) in Pittsburgh, and across the country, will show its gratitude for the TSA workforce and all airport union members with a rally on Thursday, June 24 at Pittsburgh International Airport.
“In gratitude of their hard work and commitment to protecting this nation, AFGE would publicly like to say ‘thank you’ to every TSO, and in particular, those in Pittsburgh,” AFGE 3rd District National Vice President Keith Hill said. “This event also will serve to educate the public on the challenges faced by TSOs every day, including the lack of basic workplace protections.
“Furthermore, AFGE is grateful for the support we have received as the only real union at TSA from all of the Pittsburgh airport unions and other labor unions in the area,” Hill added. “It’s imperative that the TSOs know they are not alone in their fight for full workplace protections, and we thank those unions for their backing.”
Rally speakers are scheduled to include AFGE Local 332 President Kim Kraynak, Pennsylvania AFL-CIO past President Bill George, Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Frank Snyder, Allegheny County Central Labor Council President Jack Shea and International Association of Machinists Pittsburgh Airman Lodge 1044 President Greg Bodrog.
TSOs in Pittsburgh are members of AFGE Local 332. AFGE is the only union to represent TSOs since the agency’s inception, and currently has more than 12,000 dues-paying members in 38 AFGE Locals across the country.
AFGE earlier this year filed a petition with the Federal Labor Relations Authority for exclusive union representation at TSA, and renewed its call for immediate passage of H.R. 1881, which would be a permanent, legal solution to the matter of collective bargaining rights at TSA.
