This election matters because the people who hold office decide whether federal workers have a contract, a job, and a voice at work. Over the past year and a half, patriotic public servants have watched this administration try to strip collective bargaining rights from a million federal employees, fire workers without cause, and hand our work to contractors. Every one of those attacks came from people who won elections. Nov. 3 is when we start reversing them.
“These midterms will decide whether the people who serve this country still have rights at work, or whether a paycheck and a career can be taken away on a whim,” AFGE National President Everett Kelley said. “Our members care for veterans, keep our food and air safe, and make sure Social Security checks arrive on time. They have earned a government that treats them with dignity, and the American people have earned public servants who are not afraid of losing their jobs for doing them honestly.”
AFGE does not endorse based on political party. Our union endorses the candidates who have stood with federal workers, and in 2026 that includes Republicans and Democrats alike. AFGE has endorsed hundreds of candidates this year, from both parties. What every one of them has in common is a record of supporting our right to bargain collectively for better pay, benefits, and working conditions. That is the only test AFGE applies.
The midterm program to build an AFGE majority in Congress is underway. Release staff are being assigned to target states, and volunteer recruitment is starting now for canvassing, phone banks, and text banks. More endorsements will post to the Election Center through the fall.
Here is what members can do right now, in order.
First, sign up to volunteer at the Election Center.
Second, check that your voter registration is current and fix it if it is not.
Third, ask one coworker to do both.
Our power comes from all of us standing together, and to win this fight we need all of us.
