The partial settlement is based on an AFGE grievance filed in the mid-1990s, which came to fruition through AFGEs persistent efforts. AFGEs efforts effect all eligible employees regardless of union affiliation.
“AFGE is pleased that the VHA has recognized these workers with their entitled benefits,” said National President Bobby L. Harnage. “However, AFGE is distressed that the VHA has not paid these workers the full amount of back pay that they’re entitled to under the law. AFGE is pursuing full back pay.”
AFGE, representing 125,000 workers in the Department of Veterans Affairs, is the largest federal employees union in the United States. Go to www.afge.org and learn more about AFGE.
