AFGE Local 1924 is putting another $25,000 into AFGE’s Federal Employee Defense Fund (AFGE FED Fund), bringing the local’s two-year total to $75,000 and fueling a legal campaign that has already blocked unlawful firings, saved jobs, and kept union contracts alive.
The money donated to the AFGE FED Fund is showing up in the courtroom. AFGE is the lead plaintiff or participant in nearly two dozen federal lawsuits filed since President Trump resumed office on Jan. 20, 2025. We have challenged unlawful executive orders and other illegal actions issued by the administration attempting to shut down congressionally mandated agencies, fire and displace federal workers, outlaw their unions, and gut merit systems protections.
AFGE members, leaders, and activists are powering that work with their dues and their donations to the AFGE FED Fund.
A year ago, members at AFGE Local 1924, which represents U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services employees, voted to donate $50,000 to AFGE’s Federal Employee Defense Fund to help the union litigate cases against the Trump administration. And to help sustain the fight, the local agreed to donate another $25,000 to the FED Fund this year.
“We made our donation to support the work that AFGE and our allies are doing to bring class-action lawsuits against the administration’s attacks on federal workers and their collective bargaining rights,” Local 1924 President Michael Knowles said.
The donations are particularly meaningful for the local in light of the recent passing of Chief Steward Vanessa Allyn, who had been the driving force behind the donation push.
“Vanessa continues to inspire us to give our utmost in the struggle for liberty and justice for all,” Knowles said.
Contributions to the AFGE FED Fund are essential if we want to remain in the fight.
“Donations to the FED Fund are critical to fighting back against the Trump administration's efforts to dismantle the non-partisan civil service, attack federal employees, and eliminate unions,” AFGE General Counsel Rushab Sanghvi said.
“The FED Fund has provided AFGE the resources necessary to fund cases that have protected tens of thousands of federal employees against unlawful RIFs, stopped the dismantling of agencies like the Voice of America, saved FEMA, and seeded existential litigation challenging the Trump exclusion executive order and defending union collective bargaining agreements at TSA, the VA, and the BOP.”
